The air always smelled a certain way before a storm: cold and thick, with a pinch of salt. Kai walked along the waterline, enjoying the wet sand between his toes. The sun warmed his neck, but a passing breeze carried the familiar smell of rain. He laced his fingers through Perrin’s. He had spent a good half hour convincing her to come, and he refused to let a little water ruin their excursion.
Although they walked arm in arm, Perrin kept her feet on dry land. “I don’t get why you like the beach so much.”
“I like the way it smells.”
“It smells like fish.”
“And don’t fish smell great?” He grabbed her wrist in his other hand and pulled her towards him until they both stood, ankle deep in the rising tide. “Come on. You’ve been stuck in a lab your whole life. Have a little fun. Get your feet wet.”
She grumbled and crossed her arms, “I didn’t know you meant literally.”
“You’re cute when you’re grumpy.” He laughed and pressed his forehead against hers. He winked. “I know - Let’s make a bet. A bet will be fun. If it rains, you have to give me a kiss.”
“You and your gambling,” she sighed, but Kai could tell she couldn’t help smiling, just a little. She looked at the sky. It was clearer than the water at their feet. “The sun’s out. It’s not going to rain.”
“Just keep watching.” He motioned for her to sit.
She kicked the sand and raised her eyebrow.
“Fine.” He sat down first, and she settled in his lap. “You know, you could just wash your pants later instead of using me as a cushion.”
She ran her fingers through his hair. “It’s more fun this way.”
“Got me there.” He nodded to the horizon. “But it looks like that’s a bet you’ll be losing.” A massive cloud rolled over the water, casting a grey shadow over the blue. It stirred the ocean in its wake, sending new waves that broke on the pair’s heels. In minutes, the sun disappeared from view.
The wind picked up the sand, transforming Perrin’s hair into a tempest of black curls. Kai grabbed her waist and planted a kiss on her lips as it began to rain.

Some mages have very specific powers. Kai is one of them, but he has the charisma to make up for it. Perrin has amazing hair.
Kaiaden Voluska and Perrin Maeir belong to Grace Fong,
Yea, Kai definitely has the charisma to pull off a sneaky bet like that and that Perrin likes him as well.
They kind of remain me of Ron and Hermione from HP for some reason x3
anyway, great job! *u*
They'd look less like them if i colored it - Kai has blond hair, and Perrin's is black.
It is a compliment!
